Today's Lesson...

Today we finished all the vocabulary that goes with Scientific Method.

This information is going to be tested on friday, August 29. After that, I will use this information throughout our class and I will expect you to understand and be familiar and comfortable with using this information.

3 Mathematical Tools of Research:
1. Mean: the average of a controlled data set

2. Median: the middle number of a controlled data set when the numbers are listed in numerical order from least to greatest.
Found one of 2 ways:
Odd numbers in a data set: Middle number of the controlled data set when the numbers are listed in numerical order from least to greatest
Even numbers in a data set: The middle 2 numbers of the controlled data set when the numbers are listed in numerical order from least to greatest are averaged.

3. Mode: The number seen most frequently in a controlled data set

Control Group:
The group in the experiment used for comparison

Experimental Group:
The group exposed to the factor being tested

Independent variable:
The tested factor of an experiment

Dependent variable:
the factor being measured as a result of changes to the independent variable

Data:
information gathered from observations

Qualitative data:
a description of what your senses detect, this includes your emotions

Quantitative data:
any numerical data collected that can be measured
